Argentinian virologist, known for her research on HIV, Hepatitis B and the Dengue virus. She is the first Argentinian woman to be a member of Academia Americana of Microbiology. In 2015 she won the L’Oreal-Unesco Prize as “For Women in Science” being the most outstanding woman in Latin America.

Clara Cantore

Singer song-writer and bass player. She’s been travelling around the globe with a new approach to folklore music, using the bass as the main instrument. Albums: Entre Algarroba y Durazno (2020), Calma (2016), Ser Tiempo (2013), Mentiras Criollas (2011).

Santiago Alonso

Musician, actor, journalist and audiovisual producer. With over 12 years of experience in the media, his path has led him to various areas of entertainment and research. As a musician he is a song-writer with two albums: Hierba Seca (2019) y Rumbitas (2018). As an actor he worked in theatre, TV series and advertising. Within the Foundation he is the Producer and Coordinator of Communication and Audiovisuals.

Mariano "Nano" Napoli

Nano Napoli, known as Niño Etc., is a musician, writer and Buenos Aires based communicator. When he was 6 he began studying drums and he has been writing since he can remember. He has participated in different artistical, cultural and social projects. As a singer song-writer he has released 5 albums and for several years he plays his songs anywhere he can.

Manuel Tirso Rubio Carreras

Born in Buenos Aires, he is a musician and web programmer. He studied Children and Youth Orchestra Conduction at the UNDAV and fullstack web development. Currently he is involved in multiple musical projects. He teaches percussion at the San Telmo Orchestra and produces Cincinnati washboards.

EDITORIAL

Florencia Frete

Composer with a degree from Universidad Nacional de Villa Maria (Argentina), MA in Music Composition from University of York (UK) and currently specializing in Information and Communication Technologies in Higher Education at UNVM (Argentina). She works as a university tutor, a music and piano teacher, conducts a Children’s choir and participate in a research teamfrom UNVM. She collaborates with different artists, with the audiovisual project Matemates and the interdisciplinary collective ALGO.

Victor Vargas Inostroza

Born in Punta Arenas, he is Chileno-Mapuche. He’s undergrad and PhD are in Anthropology. He is also a musician having put out two albums: Barcos (2019) y Vendaval (2021). His field of work is in territorial issues, social and environmental conflicts and indigenous politics in Argentina.

Malena Maite

From San Luis, she studies Visual Arts in Bahía Blanca. She is a freelance illustrator with themes such as comic books, manga and pop culture.

Alexandru G. Ichim

Writer and web developer. He studied literature in Argentina. Has worked with different artistic projects, cultural centres, concerts and operas. His literature interests are in mythology and philology. He’s a member of the interdisciplinary collective ALGO. He’s the founder of York Collective, a bicycle courier coop.

AUDIOVISUAL

Martín y Sebastián Bergallo

Sebastián and Martín Bergallo are musicians, artistic producers and record producers. They founded Desdémona Estudio in 1999 where they focused on recording, mixing and mastering over 700 albums and hundreds of independent productions. In 2019 they founded Sensei Mastering together with Mario Breuer in Córdoba. A studio focused mainly on audio mastering and post-production.

FINANCES

Andrés Frete

Undergrad in Economy at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. Currently doing the Profesorado in Economic Sciences. He’s a member of an economic, political and social surveying group, OTES. He actively works with worker’s coops. He’s a professor and adscripto at the History of Economic Thought class at FCE-UNC. He’s also actively a gardener and recycler.

Lawyer degree and MA in Law and Argumentation from UNC.He specialises in Commercial and Civil Law and Intellectual Property.

Laura Cantore

Lawyer. She has a PhD in Social Sciences and Law from UNC. Postdoc in Gender from UCES. Teaches Law Philosophy and Law Introduction at UNC. Researcher within CIJS-SECYT-UNC. President of the Foundation Una Puerta focused on researching Human Right, Gender and Violence in Latin America.

Música Por La Ciencia es un proyecto que pone a la música al servicio de la ciencia, haciéndola visible desde un espacio artístico.

En cada episodio invitamos a un artista de gran visibilidad a compartir una canción que luego es dedicada al equipo de un laboratorio que viene trabajando en la pandemia. De este modo se da a conocer el trabajo que se viene realizando desde la ciencia y lo acompañamos a través de la música.

El ciclo propone acompañar los procesos de transformación que suceden en el contexto de la pandemia COVID-19, donde la comunidad científica dispone de sus herramientas para dar soluciones creativas en la emergencia. Este proceso refleja la transformación que sufre toda la sociedad y propone el arte como narrador de este proceso.

El proyecto surge a mediados de marzo, en plena pandemia COVID-19, cuando Clara Cantore se entera de que Andrea Gamarnik y su equipo estaban haciendo un trabajo maratónico en el laboratorio, 15 horas diarias, de lunes a lunes.

Así, Clara decide hacerles un regalo sorpresa enviándoles una canción en apoyo y agradecimiento por su trabajo. Esta iniciativa fue extendiendo la invitación a otros artistas quienes generosamente decidieron sumarse, Sandra Mihanovich, Eruca Sativa, Nahuel Pennisi, Juan Carlos Baglietto, Marta Gómez y Piñón Fijo, entre otros.

Esta primera experiencia abrió el camino para repensar el motor de nuestro trabajo artístico en esta coyuntura y nos llevó a querer compartirlo y profundizarlo para que muchas otras personas puedan disfrutar de la música pero, esencialmente, conocer el trabajo de los científicos.

Así, nace Música Por La Ciencia.
